Fuel cell installation has never been this big before. In New Haven, Connecticut, a new mixed-use 700,000 square foot development, dubbed as 360 State Street, announces the world’s first large-scale residential installation of a 400 kilowatt fuel cell that will go on to meet 100 percent of the building’s electric needs. Furthermore, it will provide thermal energy to 500 residential units, common areas and retail spaces inside the building. The installation makes 360 State a new green building model with a certified LEED Platinum Plan.

360 State is a 25-story residential tower that sits above a 4-story parking garage and ground floor retail. The developers have plans for a full service grocery store, bike shop, day care and office space. The building also features a fitness center, library, pool, green roof, children’s playroom, and lounge rooms. The U.S. Green Building Council recognizes it for upholding the tenets of smart growth, urbanism and green design.
