Today with rising alertness and concern about our environment, people have become very conscious. Various researches and experiments are being carried out to uncover new technologies which could help in reducing harmful environmental impacts. The demand for environmentally friendly vehicles is rising day by day. This growth in demand and spirit to create green future has made many car manufacturers transform their vehicle to run on the biofuel. Given below are 5 such vehicles transformed to run on biofuel
1. Rigged-up 1974 VW Beetle converted to run on a hybrid engine
A 1974 VW Beetle has been converted into an eco-friendly car. Designed by a team of researchers from the University of Kansas, this car runs on a hybrid engine. The hybrid engine is powered using a biodiesel generator and a group of 10 lead-acid batteries. Though the higher speed limit of this car is 30mph, it has been designed as a proof-of-concept drive without approaching the limits. The old styled car is being converted into road-ready shape. Though a bit expensive ($25,000), but the whole conversion is expected to save 3 to 12 tons of CO2 from being released in the atmosphere.
2. Neil Young transforms 1959 Lincoln Continental gas-guzzler into an eco-car runs on biodiesel.
63-year-old rock star Neil young teamed up with a mechanic and converted his 2.5 tonne Lincoln Continental into an eco-friendly car. His 19.5 feet monstrous car is longest and heaviest of its time and is known for its wide grills and glittering chrome. The old Lincoln was converted into a zero emission car which does not require roadside refueling. This car also acts as an electrical generator for a residence. The engine was replaced by an electric motor capable of generating 500 foot-pound torque. The acceleration produced by the car was appreciable and it produced no noise. Car generated more energy than it needed to run. This extra energy could be used to power the house.
3. Hummer H1 Transformed Into Zero South Biodiesel Car
Zero South Biodiesel Electric Hummer has been created keeping in mind Hummer H1. As the name suggests, the vehicle has been designed exclusively for a voyage to the South Pole. It rides on tracks instead of tires making it movable on slippery polar surface. It was first designed to be powered on fuel but later changed and four-cylindrical engine of Volkswagen was used to create power for its four motors. Each motor then powers the individual track attached to it and helps the track move on the polar surfaces.
4. 2011 Peugeot 407 Facelift to run on biofuel
Peugeot 407 has been designed to please its user by improving the internal as well as external robustness and quality. The temperature controlling system and other comfort equipments increase the attractiveness as well as comforts of the occupants. The most remarkable feature of this car is its range of four-and six-cylinder engines. The HDi 407 diesel engine is most popular and has been enhanced using diesel filter system (FAP). This helps in reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. It consumes only 5.6 liters per 100 kms making it one of the most efficient cars of its kind.
5. Camper converts Ford F-350 to run on biodiesel, solar and wind energy
Brian Brawdy has created a low emission car which uses natural sources to generate energy. He has converted Ford F-350 into an eco-friendly low emission camping vehicle. This vehicle was powered used biodiesel, solar energy and wind energy to run an air conditioner, microwave, refrigerator and television fitted inside the vehicle. Brian says that the whole system works flawlessly and has enabled him stay 320 nights in his camper last year. But the modification process was quite expensive and Brian had to spend $140,000 to make the vehicle go green.
