6 Reasons You Should Use All-Natural Skin & Beauty Products

Why should you use all-natural skin and beauty products? There are a lot of reasons, and they mostly come down to better health for you and for the planet.

We’ve talked before about using all-natural makeup and moisturizer products, highlighting some wonderful brands. Today let’s look at 6 reasons you should use all-natural skin and beauty products.

Reason 1): They’re Easier on Your Skin

Easier on Your SkinOne of the most important advantages of natural skin care products is that they’re easier on your skin.

Because the FDA does not regulate the chemicals used in skin care products, it can be difficult if not impossible to know what is safe and what is not safe. And, too, different people react to different things.

A non-natural product which claims it help your skin may cause wrinkles, dryness, and irritation in the long run.

Using natural skin care products instead is a great way to experience peace of mind about your routine.

Reason 2): They’re Safer

There’s a dirty little secret surrounding the cosmetics and skincare industry: it’s very poorly-regulated, and companies have used a variety of potentially quite dangerous ingredients, including carcinogens.

In one case a few years ago, a prominent cosmetics company was ordered to pay $72 million in damages to the family of a woman who died from ovarian cancer, her death having been linked to her use of a talc-based baby powder for decades.

The problem is much bigger than this, though: chemicals like formaldehyde, parabens, phthalates, nitrosamines, and others are found in a wide variety of skin and beauty products.

Using all-natural skin and beauty products instead is a great way to protect yourself from something which may literally contain cancer-causing chemicals.

Reason 3): More Nutrients

More Nutrients

Many organic and all-natural products are loaded with nutrients, such as vitamin C, vitamin E, and vitamin A, all three of which are very good for the skin.

In particular, vitamin C is known to be good for providing antioxidants and fighting free radicals, which are known to attack the skin’s support structure in ways that contribute to aging.

Vitamin E is another good nutrient, one which contributes to a smooth, youthful appearance. Vitamin A is good for promoting skin repair, and particularly for preventing dull, flaky, skin.

By contrast, many synthetic products contain plenty of chemicals but none of these vitamins.

Reason 4): Lack of Strange Side Effects

Many conventional skin care and beauty products use chemicals like parabens, a preservative used to extend the shelf life of products. However, there are concerns that synthetic parabens mimic natural hormones, and may have side effects over time.

In particular, the concern with parabens is that the fact that synthetic chemicals mimic natural hormones may cause disruptions to the endocrine system over time. Whether or not this is the case and what the effects might be remains to be seen, but if you don’t like the idea of being a human guinea pig, avoiding synthetic, artificial chemicals like this in your skin and beauty products is probably a good idea.

By contrast, natural products use chemicals like grapefruit seed extract, which is safe. It is true that a few natural ingredients provoke allergic reactions in people – lanolin, a chemical from wool, is an allergen to some people, and you may know someone who is allergic to almonds and other tree nuts.

However, even where natural ingredients cause allergic reactions, the side effects and the properties are generally very well-understood, something which is not nearly as true of synthetic ingredients.

Reason 5): Your Nose Will Thank You

Your Nose Will Thank You

Natural skin and beauty products smell like the all-natural ingredients they’re made of, not a variety of different artificial chemicals that aren’t found in nature. Not only are the odors likely to be more pleasant, they’re also likely to be easier on your system.

In many cases, conventional products use aromatic chemicals to cover up the smell of other chemicals. That’s actually the whole purpose of many artificial fragrances: they’re covering up the scent of other chemicals, a scent which may be far less pleasant.

You might be tempted to think that if you can’t smell a chemical, it doesn’t matter. In fact, the smell is still there, and all of those chemicals may lead to a headache.

By contrast, all-natural fragrances are much more honest and straightforward, and less likely to lead you to come down with a headache.

Reason 6): They’re Better for the Planet

Here’s the thing: the artificial chemicals conventional skin and beauty products make use of aren’t only bad for human beings; they’re often bad for the planet as well.

Buying natural skin and beauty products is a great way to avoid supporting the manufacture and synthesis of synthetic chemicals which do no good and potentially much harm to the environment.

If you choose to support green companies instead, you’ll be supporting efforts to help create a more sustainable, green future for all.

There are many reasons to use all-natural skin and beauty products. As we’ve seen, ultimately all of them boil down to better health and experience for you, and a better use of our natural resources.
