Bicycles have been considered by far the most eco-friendly means of transport. They have helped in fighting pollution, hence saving the environment. This time around, they have gone a little extra mile to contribute towards Mother Nature that too in style. Prague-based fashion label Segrasegra has come out with clothing line that uses recycled bicycle inner tubes in its design. Designed especially for the women of today, who is fashionable, eco-conscious and likes adventure, this new clothing line includes outerwear, jeans, sweatshirts, T-shirts and a few day-to-night pieces for women.
We have already seen bicycle inner tubes being used for making jewelry and bags, but have never heard of them being used in clothing. SegraSegra, which means “sister sister” in Czech was started by two sisters Dagmar and Eliska Mertova. The fashion label was inspired by the sister’s experiences of living in Finland and Berlin where people enjoy riding throughout the year. The duo visited some bike shops and got the old tire tubes for free, which were then used to sustainability and style to apparels.
The bicycle inner tube used in this clothing line gives the extra padding and comfort. One of the major drawbacks of cycling is that you often end up with messy clothes, but this new, innovative ensemble can be easily cleaned. Rubber tubing can withstand weather, washing, ironing, and stretching, making it just perfect for clothing. They also include reflective strips and prints that protect cyclists in low visibility conditions or at night.
