Addressing the world’s energy challenges, the charging station veteran ECOtality is gearing up to roll out its new electric charging station this fall. Dubbed the “Blink charger”, this green charging station is designed by Frog Design. This Level II charger is capable of charging the cars in just four to eight hours.
Targeted to the retail locations such as grocery store parking lots and movie theater lots, this black-and-white Blink charging station will include a light at the top, which signals whether the parking spot and corresponding charging station is occupied or not. When the light is on it means the space is available, while the off lights would mean the spot has been taken.
A $114 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy will allow ECOtality to deploy nearly 15,000 charging stations in 16 cities across 6 U.S. states. The company also offers a home version of the charger that will comprise of two separate units intended to be installed at eye level. As of now, the company has only the Level II stations to offer, but plans to unveil ultra fast-charging stations very soon.
