In the past 10 years, the rise of technological advancements has been moving faster than ever. The industrial revolution wasn’t even heading forward at such a fast pace. The technological revolution we’re going through has given us everything we use on a daily basis today that is a staple to our life like the internet, the smartphone, and now, the vaporizer.
With the rise of cannabis and the new age of the green lifestyle of being healthy and conscious, the vape pen has had notoriety. Whether you want to vaporize weed or other herbs, oils, concentrates and wax, your new discrete form of using it, is from a vape.
What are Vapes?
Vaporizers aren’t exactly new but the way we use it today is definitely the new form. Vapes are hand held portable electronic devices that allow you to put certain materials in it from dry herb flowers to waxy concentrates and even oil liquids. Although they are portable and handheld, they can come in all shapes and sizes. They have different features like battery sizes, temperature control settings, isolated airpath, made with different internal products and more. Price can change dramatically from one unit to another but it can also differentiate the performance of the device.
Vape pens can be purchased at your local smoke shop or head shop as long as you’re over the legal age limit. They can also come with pre-filled nicotine liquid in the device. It gives you 500-800 puffs per vape stick and you throw it away and buy a new one. If you’re trying to quit smoking, this can be a great alternative that doesn’t require inhaling smoke.
One of the pieces of the vaporizer for a vaporizer that uses liquids or juices is the atomizer cartridge. This is the cylindrical top portion that contains a mouthpiece and a hollow tank where you can pour the liquid into. Simply open the mouthpiece and pour it down the sides and screw the mouthpiece back on. The bottom is threaded which lets you simply screw it onto the dab pen battery. The threading on these cartridges are usually 510 threading which means it is universal in the vape community.
What are Fake Vape Cartridges?
One of the biggest issues that cartridges face are the mass production of fake vape cartridges. These cartridges are made without any regulation or oversight. Most of these cartridges are being blindly sold to anyone. They are generally filled up with THC oil and sold to consumers or wholesalers. These fake ones contain byproducts and cutting agents that may be safe for humans until it is consumed through inhalation. Vitamin E is one of the cutting agents that are being used in these cartridges. When you heat it, it gets mixed with the heavy leads used to create the product and you inhale it through vapor.
On top of fake vape cartridges, fake vaporizer is another product to look out for. Vape brands that create weed vape pens to vaporize the actual dry herb have been finding counterfeit versions of their own vapes. These can be a bit easier to identify the difference. They are very noticeable from the box, the product and even the awful aftertaste you get when you vape at a higher temperature.
Dangers They Pose?
Puffing on a fake cartridge or a fake vaporizer can pose bigger problems than expected. So far, no one has reported any illness from a fake dry herb vape but over 500 reported Vaping Associated Pulmonary Illness (VAPI) and most of them are related to CBD oil and THC oil carts. Most of them were tested and they came back with Vitamin E Acetate and heavy lead metals.
Inhaling Vitamin E acetate restricts fluids from getting out of your lungs almost like wrapping your lungs in saran wrap. This can make it really hard to breathe and cause pneumonia fairly quickly from the fluid buildup. Under an X-Ray, this vitamin E build up shows up as white spots or white clouds in your lung.
Using the Blockchain the Limit Fakes
Being able to stop fake cartridges being produced is very important to the cannabis and vaping community. One of the best ways to stop scammers from creating fake versions of these carts is by putting the supply chain management of the product onto the blockchain. This will be much easier to track where it came all the way to where it has ended up.
