They can be swapped into dainty illuminating options with a little effort. So, get those jars out and craft a glass lantern that will reflect your personality.
Crafting such amazing lanterns wonât take more than 1-2 hours.
The whole process wonât ask for any extra cost. The material required is easily available at home.
Resources you need:
- Glass Jar
- White Glue
- Tissue Paper
- Aluminum Foil
- Paintbrush (optional)
- Sand (optional)
1: Take the jar that attracts you the most and soak it in water. This will help releasing the labels from the jar, which can be easily scrubbed off to get a neat façade.
2: Take aluminum foil and place it on the floor/your work station. This will make sure the area doesnât get messed up with glue and other materials.
3: Take white glue and dilute it using water. Make sure it does not turn runny and stop when it looks a little loose.
4:Take tissue paper and cut it into squares, measuring half inch each. You can alter the size and shape as per your whims and fancies.
5: Take the first tissue paper square and neatly place it on the jar.
6: Stick the square on the jar with help of diluted glue. To make sure it stays on the jar surface make good use of a paintbrush or your fingers.
7: Envelop the whole jar with tissues by repeating the above step.
8: Once the jar is wholly covered, leave it for some time and let it dry.
9: When it dries, take some sand or glass vase marbles and place them at the base of the glass jar. This will act as a perfect support for placing a candle.
10: The jar has been swapped into a dainty glass lantern and can be placed wherever you feel like. Light up the candle and enjoy the charming atmosphere it will create.
Things to watch out for:
- Check if the glass jar (to be used) has any cracks. Such jars should not be used.
- Be very careful while applying glue as it may leave marks. Once the marks are formed, it may get a little difficult to get rid of them and they may give an ugly look.
- The lantern can be ornamented using beads, colorful stones and other decorative items. This will make the final product all the more attractive and colorful.
