Illegal fishing & deep water bottom-trawlers plundering deep-sea fish stocks

A leading conservationist group informs that fish stocks, living in international waters are being devastated to the point of extinction! According to a WWF report, illegal fishing and deep water bottom trawling are responsible for this devastation.

According to WWF, the current regional fishing regulation system should share a part of the blame. It is failing to tackle the problem, and has done little to enforce quotas or replenish stocks.

Tuna and the orange are the species under most threat from this devastation. The bottom-trawlers target the orange. The bottom-trawlers also destroy coral and other ecosystems by dragging heavy rollers over the ocean floor.

Simon Cripps, director of WWF’s global marine programme said,

Given the perilous overall state of marine fisheries resources and the continuing threats posed to the marine environment from over-fishing and damaging fishing activity, the need for action is immediate.
