Designed by Michelle Kaufmann Studio, the “Zero series” is the latest line of homes that works on the principle of sustainability. The design studio has put in whatever it has learnt from its 6-years of experience into making these homes as green as possible. The new designs are more flexible and highly configurable. The Zero series homes will incorporate features like smart design, eco materials, energy efficiency, water conservation and a healthy environment.
Intended to be zero energy buildings, the houses will include solar panels that will provide renewable energy to meet terms with the energy needs. Although these smart homes are designed to achieve LEED certification, but are flexible enough to obtain other certifications like Build it Green or NAHB Green Building Standard. There is also provision for rain catchment and gray water systems.
The designs of these stunning houses go by the names “Contours0”, “Vista0” and “Ridge0”. The Contours0 and Vista0 homes include strategically placed windows, glass doors and skylights to offer natural light and natural ventilation. The Ridge0™ design follows the Passivhaus principles on insulation, shading, light, efficient windows and frames, and an air-tight building envelope. Kaufmann’s stylish, aesthetically appealing homes range between 422 square feet and 2,643 square feet offer as many outdoor rooms as there are indoor ones. If you too wish to live in an eco house that share a beautiful relationship between the interiors and exteriors, just get prepared to spend about $66,500.
