Smoking kills! Smokers do get a high from smoking, butcommon people aren’t we all aware of how deadly this sinful act can prove tobe? I know a few fools who smoke because they think it’s cool. How cansomething that is injurious to health and our precious environment be cool? Smokingcauses serious problems like air pollution, water pollution and garbage, soildegradation and even deadly fire many a times. So, encouraging people to quitsmoking is an act that deserves appreciation. One such initiative was taken bya few campaigners in Mumbai, India, who fashioned a stunning life-size carmodel from 200,000 cigarettes. They celebrated the World Anti-Tobacco Day byblending a noble cause with art.
Placed in a shopping mall, the amazing installation had amessage in the background that yelled – “An average smoker will smoke this awayin just a few years. Smoking is an expensive habit. Please quit. I am hopingthat many people might give up on smoking. Whenever you light a cigarette youexhale many chemicals nearly 4,000 chemicals used in manufactured cigarettesare released into the air, which are harmful for the environment. The endproducts – cigarette butts and filters end up in streams, rivers and lakes theyboth clog and pollute water. Butts also leach toxins into the soil, whichresults in soil degradation. We have seen a lot of home and forest fires allthese years, thanks to smokers who very conveniently throw the cigarettes carelessly.
