DiMarco Construction Company has broken ground at the Point State Park last week to give families and visitors an attractive place where they could spent some enjoyable time. A new sustainable café and patio is planned that will incorporate different design features that will highlight the historical significance of the Point. A collaborative effort by PNC, Riverlife and the DCNR, the $567,000 “Cafe at the Point” is designed by Pfaffmann and Associates to achieve LEED certification.
Located off the pathway on the southern side of the park, the café will come loaded with green features like a living roof, plant covered walls, natural lighting, high efficiency light fixtures, a storm water control system and local building materials with recycled steel and masonry in large amounts. The open terrace with space for tables would make a perfect environment for a small get-together. The project is backed by a donation from PNC Financial Services, with additional support from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and Riverlife. This stunning place that is expected to be affordable and family-friendly is scheduled for completion by Spring of 2011.
