Earth Day brought a lot of joy and honor for Bradenton yesterday. The city in Manatee County, Florida saw a new world record being set that too for green cause. State College of Florida succeeded in smashing world recycling record at their 2nd annual Earthfest. Crushing the 675 pounds mark recorded by Washington state elementary schoolchildren in 2008 and their own last Earth Day record of 4,020 pounds, the SCF students collected 4,980 pounds of bottles for recycling to mark its name in from the Guinness Book of World Records.
Kim Partrick, Guinness adjudicator, awarded the long-awaited certificate to the SCF. The collecting of plastic bottles for recycling is not the only thing that the event at the college stood out. People were given a lot of green knowledge related to hybrid cars, hydrogen cells, organic herbs and gift bags made from crushed limestone.
