Many people think that they cannot go green unless and until they spend quite some money on it. However, this is just a myth as a person can go green and lead an eco-friendly life without spending but saving. You can check out the following points that are enough to convince you that without spending money you can be a green person and help sustain the environment while benefitting yourself as well.
Keep refrigerator coils clean
The refrigerator coils contain a liquid that maintains the cold temperature inside. The cleaner the coil, the better is the maintenance of cold temperature inside. On the other hand, if the coils are covered with dust and other filth, its ability to cool reduces and it starts taking much more time to cool the things inside. This means if the coil is covered with a sheet of dust, the percentage of energy use of refrigerator increases. Always keep a gap between a wall and the back of the refrigerator, clean the coil with a damp cloth on a regular basis, and save on the energy costs.
Sell old electronics
Owing to the fast-paced development of technology, electronic gadgets and devices become obsolete too soon. Many people keep on buying new gadgets and storing the old ones because they feel they would not get a nice price for it. However, storing old electronics do you no good and throwing them in the trash is even worse, as they end up in landfill sites and pollute the environment.
You can sell them off to stores and online sites that give a good compensation, and they recycle the metal and other parts of old electronics. Doing so would resolve two issues altogether – would get you some money and save environment from the harmful landfill sites.
Reduce fuel consumption
If you try to bring down your fuel consumption every day, not only you will save some bucks but would also save the environment. Ensure your car’s engine is in a good condition; the tires have sufficient air pressure, and refrain from aggressive driving. The faster you drive the more fuel your car would consume, and never forget to turn off your car whenever you are stuck in a jam.
Clear the lint after every wash
Every time you wash clothes in the washing machine, the lint is collected in the filter and interferes with the proper flow of air in the dryer. The blockage makes the dryer take more time to dry clothes, more time means more electricity usage. So make sure you clean the filter after every wash and prevent unnecessary usage energy usage.
Carry a waste free lunch
Be it a picnic, an outing, or your office; ensure that you carry a waste free lunch. A waste free lunch means that has a minimal impact on the environment, as in do not carry plastic, disposable glasses and cups, and napkins. You should carry cloth napkins, and pack your eatables in reusable boxes, which you can take back home, wash and use again, rather than throwing them in the trash and contributing to the landfill sites.
Switch off electronics after use
Electronics like television, computer, music system, grinder, and chargers are some gadgets people usually forget switching off after use. Either such people do not realize their mistake or they do not find it essential to unplug these electronics, which is a wrong habit. Learn to unplug every time and you can save great deal of electricity and can go green.
Many people think that going green costs a lot of money but this is untrue. You need not spend money to do your bit to save planet earth but a few everyday actions of yours are enough.
