Is your electricity bill getting a little too heavy for your pocket? If yes, then bid goodbye to your problem by bringing ‘TalkingPlug’ into the picture. Created by Zerofootprint, a Toronto-based company that makes software for measuring and monitoring corporate carbon emissions, this smart plug is capable of controlling home appliance energy use by making your electric sockets smarter.
This gadget special designed for the corporations and households is a plug that fits right on top of existing electrical outlets. It comes equipped with componentry to make it a controllable node on a network, including an RFID chip, microprocessor, and wireless networking. TalkingPlug is capable of giving detailed information on the amount of energy consumed by an individual appliance or electronic. It is also programmable, hence giving you the facility to control appliances.
Just in case you wish to compare your energy consumption with others, you have a mesh network created by a set of plugs, which helps in sending information via a home or office building router to Zerofootprint. The company has software that processes and analyzes the data, showing people how the energy use compares to others. The smart plug that will make its debut next week would cost you some $50, but the price is expected to drop if they are produced on a large scale.
