3 Eco Friendly Parenting Tips for Expecting Parents

Eco Friendly Parenting Tips for Expecting Parents

Raising your children in an eco-friendly household can help to teach them about the world around them and how their actions can have an effect on it. Whether you’re about to have your first child or are looking forward to adding a new addition to your family, it’s no secret that babies and young children tend to require the use of products and tools that are not great for the planet – from single use wipes to clothing they grow out of and all of the diapers in between. Being an environmentally conscious parent can be tough, but it doesn’t need to be as challenging as performing surgery at Northwest Surgery Center.

Here are some simple yet effective tips for being an eco friendly parent.

1.  Use Secondhand Supplies

In the months leading up to having a baby, it can be tempting (and at times feel necessary) to splurge on an abundance of toys, clothes, and other items for your little one. Buying items second hand or receiving them from friends and family who have already had children can not only be a major money saver, but is also better for the planet as it greatly reduces waste.

2.  Cut Out Single Use Items

If the thought of reusable diapers or wipes grosses you out, you aren’t alone; however, the truth about how damaging single use items can be to the planet should upset you more than having to wash a cloth diaper. Babies use hundreds of diapers and even more wipes each year that they are not potty trained, which can take a major toll on the environment. Using reusable items can take some getting used to, but the truth is that these items are just as easy to use as disposable products, and can save you a considerable amount of money in the long run as they will last forever in comparison to single use products which have to be constantly repurchased.

3.  Buy Eco-Friendly Baby Products

When buying products for your little one such as shampoo, soap, lotion, and more, be sure to check the ingredients on the items you are purchasing and opt for products that are made without harsh or harmful chemicals. This is not only better for the environment, but using products with natural ingredients is safer and better for your baby as well.
