healthy heartAccording to a research group at the University of Basel carried out an investigation on the intensity of exercise on an e-bike when compared to conventional bicycles. They also mentioned that training in an e-bike is certainly effective and offers all the health benefits which are associated with regular bicycling. It was also repeated that cycling for even four weeks was good enough to derive cardiorespiratory fitness.

For the study, the researchers involved around 30 volunteers. They were untrained and overweight people, who had a BMI of 28-29. The participants were well examined. The VO2 or the oxygen uptake capacity was considered for the purpose of evaluation of cardiorespiratory fitness. VO2 helps in measuring the ability of the body to uptake and also utilize oxygen. The participants had to write 6 kilometers and three days a week. Half were on a conventional bike and half on the e-bike. A few test subjects were given a GPS device and some a heart monitor.

Riding an E-bikeAfter one month, it was revealed that both groups developed great fitness. Heart efficiency increased. If this health or efficiency can be maintained, the rate of cardiovascular mortality can be decreased. Those who used e-bikes developed greater elevation gain. E-bikes certainly helped in developing motivation and were good for overweight people.
