The use of solar power in public spaces has increased manifold in the last few years. With the general public and government agencies responding positively to the need to make public spaces as sustainably powered as possible, designers too are motivated to designing elements and services that combine modern design with clean energy production units. This self-supporting kiosk serves as a public Info-point which uses solar panels and harnesses sunlight to power itself. The Solar Powered Info-point was created by the design team comprising of designers Tsuyoshi Sogabe, Desislava Ivanova and Ekaterina Shchetina for the 2015 Milan Expo .
The Solar-Powered Info-point is composed of twp modules the first of which is a cross-like bench that provides people with a place to rest and the second module consists of a charger and a main module with touch displays for providing information. The info point is kept illuminated through the night via LED lamps that are powered by the in-built solar panels.
The info point also comes with integrated USB charging ports that allow people to charge up their gadgets while they navigate the services of the kiosk. The kiosk will contain information regarding the history, culture, places and events occurring in a city which would be useful for both out of town visitors and local folks.
