Trendy planters from recyclable PVC pipes

Tubi Project

Next time before you dump that old leaking, PVC pipe, think of recycling it. An ongoing project called the TUBI recycling project in Barcelona, Spain, is doing just that. Under the TUBI project the Plastic pipes are recycled and transformed into the magnificent planters for use in residential or commercial places.

These trendy garden planters are durable, light weight, and portable. These artistic and classy colorful planters are designed by industrial designer Fabian Andino. The planters are so handy that they can enhance the look of any indoor or outdoor space. The various designs of planters allow it to rest on racks or you can even chose to hang them on walls.

Barring the use and reuse of PVC, the planters are meant to be fully environmentally sustainable. The designer of the product has ensured to retain completely recyclable, environment friendly mode of packaging these planters. The packaging is done with one piece of recovered cardboard waste. This is not all even the labels are printed on recycled paper.

In spite of ongoing hue and cry against the use of what is called, the poison plastic, PVC, is still popular. But unfortunately, the already produced PVC cannot be dumped, but better reused. PVC has been posing hazards to human health as well as environment as it produces toxic chlorine based chemicals. Burning of PVC produces poisonous Hydrogen Chloride gas, which turn into Hydrochloric acid when inhaled causing serious health problems for humans like cancer and respiratory diseases. Construction industry uses nearly 70 percent of PVC Plastics. Worldwide environmentalists are supporting ban on the production of PVC.

These planters designed out of rigid PVC pipes are meant to manage existing Plastics into modular usage items. The effort has been positively rewarded on a show by Catalan department of sustainability and waste agency of Catalonia. TUBI project’s products were finalist in the sixth edition of the best recyclable product design.

The efforts are on to stop the production of PVC products. But due its economic, light, and durable nature, it is becoming difficult to curb the production of PVC worldwide. Though developed nations are realizing its negative impact and are well on their way to stop and recycle the ready or waste plastics to maintain the balance.

TUBI project is an endeavor in similar direction to recycle existing plastics while discouraging the production of new hazardous material to produce utility materials.
