Vertical garden is actually a mini garden prepared by using wood.Recycled wood can be used for making vertical gardens. It can be made by using some materials and several steps mentioned below . unlike other gardens it takes very less area for gardening .These type gardens can also be used for decorative purpose(decorations in balconies,offices,etc.) This can be also a indoor garden that can plant different types at a time.
1.Difficulty level: Making of it is easy for first timers too, just requires some basic knowledge
2.Time required :The exact time can’t be defined but opprobriously it takes three to four hours for building entire garden(fabric stapling ,keeping potting soil in the slats and some small works.) and we have to wait for two weeks for roots to appear in the continuous watering.
3.Material : We need only seven materials for making vertical garden
- Pallet
- A roll of landscaping paper
- Sand paper
- Staple gun
- Staples
- Hammer and nails
- potting soil
- And plant of choice
4.Estimated cost :It only costs for wood , fabric, soil and plants . It may be around 5$ to 6$.I get wood and plants from the nursery. soil from the nearest garden and i also painted my vertical garden with light orange for good appearance .
5.Instructions :
STEP1:Take sand keep it on the rough spots of your pallet.Choose a pallet which has support on the back side.If pallet taken by you has no support on back side,then take a scarp wood which is roughly around three to four inches wide and thickness about one fourth inch or take a wood that supports your pallet.Now take four nails totally,two nails on either side. Take a hammer which is sufficient for your nails and scarp wood.Using the hammer attach the scarp wood and your pallet in such away that it holds tightly and supports even back of your pallet. be sure that your pallet has slates in order plant our plants
STEP2: .Begin the stapling ,take the landscaping fabric along the back of pallet and staple it continuously,continue the same process for back side of pallet and bottom side and staple.We have to take care while folding fabric and staple. Particularly among corners take more care and staple it clearly.so that no soil will spill out from the fabric and no leakage of water after planting.Paint the pallet with different colours to make it good looking and attractive.
STEP3: After completing stapling the fabric, take your pallet and keep it flat .Now take potting soil which is good and pour soil through the slats until pallet fills. Fill the pallet completely and by pressing soil down firmly,continue this process for soil to become tight.Leave enough space for planting our plants in the slats
STEP4:Now begin the planting,starting from top to bottom, make sure that soil is tightly packed in every layer and move up.Add more soil so that plants are tightly packed.Take the plant selected and put them in the slats of pallet orderly and it should be tightly packed around the plant and slat. Continue the same process for all slats.and also make sure that roots of plant get inside . If you purchase plants it will not have roots completely.Don’t spoil the plants pressing leaves. You can also use different plants for different slats and also for same slat. Leave enough space between the plants.
STEP5:After planting all plants in a right way, keep watering thoroughly for some days and daily in regular intervals .Now let it remain in the garden for one to two weeks, so it allows soil to sink and allow plants to take roots .After this for two weeks you can set it usually. Also remember when you water the plants,start from top of the vertical garden and keep water each subsequent section a little less. This is because the garden is vertical and the water normally seep through the bottom of garden . This happens for most of plants. And thus your vertical garden is ready
6.Tips:
Use good wood so that it not sink in water and stay for longer times,get wood, from the garden inorder we need not pay to it and plants and soil from nursery.
7.Things to watch out for :
You should be careful in folding fabric and stapling inorder to avoid spilling of soil and leakage of water .While watering the plants start from top and each subsequent section a little less, this is because garden is vertical.
