Waste management has become quite a challenging job in this modern era. The amount of waste that is produced every day is going up. So isnât it a good idea if we could recycle at least a few waste material?
The corks are actually produced from the barks of the cork oak tree. This makes the corks an ecofriendly product.
Here are some useful applications of a used cork.
1. Christmas decorations
You can cut the corks into three circular shaped pieces of equal size or leave it as it is. Use a sharp thin blade for cutting the corks. Push the corks onto a wire coat hanger. The hole should be digged at the middle laterally. Paint the whole thing with the colors of your taste and leave it to dry. Thread the corks onto a rope or cord as long as you need. Tie the garland at the top of the tree and drape the loops around the tree until you reach the bottom.
2. Christmas wreath
Insert a toothpick through the top end of the cork. You can either stick a bit of glue to the tooth pick to hold it in place or you can direct the tooth pick toward the sides of the cork so that it sticks out. If you have chosen the glue, wait till it is dry. Lay the wreath on the work surface and keep the wine cork to the side. By this time the corks should be ready with the tooth picks inserted in it. Now you have to put them inside the wreath, around the bottom, near the surface. Arrange the corks with a lot of space if you have a very limited number of corks. Place the corks in the wreath until you have reached the top layer of the wreath. You can fill the space in between the corks using hanging grapes or other decorative items. Make a bow out of a ribbon and pin it neatly on the wreath.
3. Cork board
Cork board is an innovative way to give a totally new look to your work station. You can display your notes and also those precious photos that you always cherished or anything that you want to pin up on the board. There’s nothing wrong in having a plain corkboard. Cork is light in weight and flexible. It has natural properties for wadding and noise assimilation. You can give a new look for your décor by altering the corkboard. Changing the board does not take much time and objects. You can repaint the frame of the cork board if it has a frame. Or else you can fix a new frame for the cork board. Readymade frames are available in stores. You can also paint the cork board itself with a color of your choice. Or else you could stain the board as well.
4. Cork Mats
Cut the cork in two pieces. Use a sharp blade to cut the cork. The cut corks should be equal in shape and size. Organize the corks into a quadrangle, flat sides facing down. Make sure it is arranged in a straight position. You could decide the measurements of the mat according to your requirement. Cut the shelf liner and keep it ready. Now shift the rows of corks on to the shelf liner and paste them with the glue to the top side of the liner. Press the corks hard. Clean the glue if it has spilled on the corks. Now you have got the frame of your mat ready. You can shift the balance corks and glue them on to the mat. You can use this mat in your bathrooms, table or any other place you want to use it.
5. Coaster with used Corks
Use the hot glue to hold two corks together. It is the longer sides of the corks which needs to be pasted. Hold it in place for a few seconds to allow the glue to set. Arrange the pairs neatly and hold the corks for a while to set it correctly. Repeat this step and pair up the rest of the corks like this. Now arrange the pairs of corks in the same pattern. Next stick the circular sides of the corks with the glue. Interchange the pattern so that the corks are arranged in two upright and two flat positions. Use four pairs to make a coaster.
