Frankfurt Music Studios

Frankfurt in Germany was an active city in the days of World War II and it was heavily affected by the war.  In fact, there were nearly eight bombings by the Allied forces in the city, and therefore it is but obvious that the city would have many bunkers to escape the frequent risk of bombings.

You can see a lot of them in the East harbour, Architekten, However, an architecture company in Germany decided to use one of these bunkers and make them into something amazing. Therefore, they turned it into a recording studio!  Now this recording studio is not an ordinary one, but it is renowned for recording state of the art recording.  At first, the plan was to build the studio inside the bunker, but since the roof was damaged, they decided to build the studio on top of the roof.

Bunker 559

The New Dutch Waterline was inaugurated during the 17th century as it was supposed to protect the main cities against any invasions and was serving as a defence mechanism.  By flooding the adjoining regions, in a planned manner, the areas had deep waters, which were not too deep for ships and too deep for foot soldiers.  This was further fortified during the two World Wars as bunkers were also installed.

Nearly three years ago in the year 2010, the Rietveld Landscapers used one of the bunkers and opened it up as a tourist attraction to show how it was used back in the days.  This bunker is known as Bunker 599 and there are 700 such bunkers.

The Shelter

There was a strained relationship between the Soviet Union and China in the 1970s and this led to the building of nearly 2000 bomb shelters or bunkers that are now obsolete in Shanghai.  Now the Government has let out some of the bunkers to the public- and the utilisation of these shelters is amazing.

For instance, one of these bunkers called The Shelter has been turned into an underground nightclub and has been labelled as one of the best in the region!

Bunker 42

Bunker 41 was earlier known as Tagansky Protected Command Point and it was constructed in the 1950s and was functional until 1986.  This bunker can accommodate nearly three thousand men and a supply for three months.  It is built on a sprawling land area of 7000 square meters.

The Bunker 42 has now been turned into a restaurant bar and club now.  However, a certain part of the property would be kept as a souvenir and be named the Cold War Museum.

During the World Wars, there were not only bomb shelters and bunkers- as there were missile silos as well.  The SiloHome is a great remodelled silo located in Saranaz, New York and is lying at 56 meters below ground level.

Only the first two floors have been turned into a home with a wooden lodge on top.
