Seven natural wonders of the world

Natural Wonders of the World

You know about the great Wonders of the World and you can name them too. But are you aware of the amazing natural wonders of our world? There are many natural landscapes found on the earth which have been caused due to the natural feats of nature like river erosion, living organisms, natural particles found in the atmosphere, etc. These could be towering mountains, deep valleys and gorges, beautiful islands surrounded by the ocean, dense forests that are live with different species and many more. These are beautiful places, which are so many in numbers that it is difficult to point out only a selected few. There is no specific list but all these places became nature’s wonders when some travelers traveling all over the world found them and thought them to be amazing and truly beautiful.

However given below is a list of seven places which are considered to be the best amongst the natural wonders of the world.

    The Grand Canyon:

    The Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon is found in the Arizona state of the United States of America. It is a result of the erosion caused by the Colorado River and its tributaries. The other valleys are longer and wider than the Grand Canyon, but the beautiful and colorful landscapes and its huge size makes it an apt entry into the topmost natural wonder of the world. It is made up of raised plateaus and structured basins. Apart from this Canyon also consists of rich fossils, geologic features and types of rocks, a number of caves and other resources. It is also a great biological reserve.

    The Great Barrier Reef:

    The Great Barrier Reef

This is the world’s largest reef made by living organisms. It is located in the Coral Sea in Australia. It consists of approximately 2900 reefs and over 900 small islands. It is so huge that it is visible from the outer space too. Apart from these tiny organisms, the reef is also home to many whales, dolphins, turtles, crocodiles, etc. and it also welcomes over 200 species of birds that come to visit it during the nesting period.

    Mount Everest:

    Mount Everest

This is the world’s highest mountain. It is located on the Nepal-Tibet border. It is a peak that is a favorite among mountaineers and climbers. There are many hurdles that you could find on your way to the top of the mountain like altitude sickness, strong winds and weather, but they are not as acute as those seen on mountain peaks such as K2 or Nanga Parbat. It is very windy at the summit, with winds blowing at 118 miles/hour, the oxygen level keeps on decreasing and so does the temperature. Acclimatization is a process by which mountaineers, climbing this great peak, use to get familiar with the mountain conditions.

    Aurora:

    Aurora

This is a display of natural lights in the sky, which is found in the regions like Arctic and Antarctic. It is caused when charged particles collide with atoms at higher altitudes. These can be easily seen in the night sky, especially during clear winter nights. In the northern latitudes, aurora borealis or northern lights is seen while in the southern latitudes, this phenomenon is known as aurora australis or southern lights.

    Amazon:

    Amazon

By volume, this is the largest river in the world. It has the world’s biggest drainage basin and also accounts for almost one-fifth of the total river flow, in the world. It has over 5600 different species of fishes in the river, of which some of them are carnivores and are dangerous. Also, the one-third of the species in the world, live in the Amazon Rainforest, which is the richest forest in terms of biodiversity. Due to its length, it is the second longest river in the world, after the Nile.

    Galapagos Islands:

    Galapagos Islands

These are small volcanic islands found in Ecuador, in the Pacific Ocean. These are isolated islands that are found very far from the South American continent. These islands and the surrounding waters form a national park and also a biological marine reserve. It is on these islands, that Charles Darwin put forth the Darwin’s theory of evolution by natural selection. You can enroll for a boat tour if you wish to observe the amazing sites and wildlife that these islands contain. Rather than booking these tours from your own country, it is always better to book them in Puerto Ayora or Quito, as it will turn out to be less expensive.

    Iguazu Falls:

    Iguazu Falls

These falls are found between Brazil and Argentina. The main falls are made up of 275 other waterfalls which are caused as a result of a number of small islands that run along the edge. Among these falls, the best one to see is known as the Devil’s Throat. This fall is around 269 feet high, 492 feet wide and 2300 feet long. This is the part through which the border of Brazil and Argentina run through.
