Green architecture is all about creating structures that appear to be a part of their surroundings. The governments of almost all the nations encourage such green thoughts and this is the reason some best green architects have emerged worldwide. Following are the names of green architects that have made their mark in the history of green contributions.
Peter Busby:
He isbetter known as Canada’s leading green architect. He had sustainability guru Ray Cole as his mentor and he preaches that green design is the best design. He tries to devote at least twenty percent of his time to environmental advocacy at Canada Green Building Council (he is the co-founder). He has been accredited with two AIA Committee on the Environment Top 10 Awards in the past decade.
Norman Foster:
He is a British architect whose fame is unquestionable. British architect Norman Foster’s prominence is indisputable. Foster + Partners is an architectural firm that has received a number of awards and credentials for its excellence. The firm has also won more than 100 international and national competitions.
R. Buckminster Fuller:
He is a green architect and a humanitarian who has worked his entire life to find easy and economical solutions to the problems of homelessness and hunger. A prefabricated house with a round structure supported by poles, made from a few products and can be heated and cooled by natural means, is a perfect example of an affordable and environmentally friendly home.
Thom Mayne:
He is the 2005 Pritzker Architecture Prize winner and the founder of California based architectural firm Morphosis. He is known to have a focus on innovating new structural designs that are eco friendly and are sustainable. After the destruction caused by hurricane Katrina, Mayne in collaboration with Brad Pitt’s Make It Right Foundation made a “Float House”- it can raise up to 12 feet in case of floods.
Renzo Piano:
He is an Italian architect who is widely known as the most dominant green architects today. One of his much-admired buildings is the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park. The museum has a planetarium, aquarium, and national history museum. The building has a phenomenal 2.5-acre green, living roof that soaks around 7.6 million liters of annual rainwater. Another eco friendly feature of this building is that there are no air conditioners. Weather sensors are installed which automatically open and shut the windows so that the building gets cool air from outside.
