Travelling is a part and parcel of our lives but there are some genius travellers whose travelling created history. Some of them have done this by going green that is by not having any detrimental effect on the environment. Here is a list of few such sustainable travellers who created history.

This man has travelled 378,000 miles and has been to 196 countries on a cycle. He is 75 years of age and has cycled for 50 years. In the year 1962, he left his hometown Hovelhof in Germany and started doing which he enjoyed the most – travellingon a cycle. The not so good experiences in some countries did not affect his spirit and he continued.All he had was a cooker,tent,sleeping bag and a sack.

He returned from his pedal boat trip across the globe in 13 years. He circumnavigated the globe without any motors or sails. He was the first person to do this. To be precise, his human power expedition called expedition 360 lasted for record 4,833 days and he travelled for 74,842 kms. He ended his journey at the same point from where he had started.

He has already spent two years in walking the distance between Ethiopia and South America’s Tierra del Fuego archipelago. The total distance is 21,000 miles. He is mainly repeating the path taken by humans to migrate out of Africa. This 52-year-old foreign correspondent decided to walk rather than take any vehicle for his travel plans.

This Canadian has travelled across 64 countries. He has travelled record 47000 miles on foot in 11 years in which he has crossed 6 continents and used 54 pairs of shoes. This is probably one of the longest circumnavigations on foot. During this, stint he had slept in jail cells and even became friends with gang members.

He is an adventurer of Turkish nationality. He is the first person to circumnavigate the earth all alone and that to on human power. All he used was rowboats and bicycles and did hiking to reach his goal. The journey which began in July 2007 ended in July 2012.

This British running man is the first people to run across the world. He started running from New Delhi in October 1997. He completed his record by ending his run at the same point in June 2003. There was lots of speculation, but Robert Garside’s achievement finally got its deserved place in the Guinness book of world records.

This Canadian author and adventurer circumnavigated the globe from mainland Europe to mainland North America. He used a row boat for the purpose. He has completed the descent of rivers like Amazon river from the source to the sea and the Yenisei river.

This avid traveller first cycled to New Zealand. She did this in 23 days. Then she cycled to the South Pole. She was the first person to accomplish this feat. This non-traditional traveller has always been a great follower of adventure sports and has completed 6 marathons in seven days and cycled across the frozen Lake Baikal in Serbia.

Levison Wood stands at the top of Murchsion Falls. The River Nile squeezes through a gap of six metres and drops forty metres to create one of the most epic sights on the whole course of the river and is called Murchsion Falls, named after the president of the Royal Geographical Society at the time when Samuel Baker first caught sight of the falls.  Levison is attempting to be the first person to ever walk the enitre length of the Nile. He is 1500km in of a 6500km total journey and started in Rwanda. He is expecitng to finish in Egypt before December 2014.

This 32-year-old British has walked 4000 miles along the Nile River which is known to be filled with crocodiles. He is known for his adventurous streaks. He even travelled from England to India and back by taking a lift and crossed sensitive areas like Iraq and Afghanistan.

These people are not normal travellers. They have done something different in the world of travelling. Through their feats, they have surely created a name for themselves in history.
