What is the use of keeping something that is of no use to anyone and that consumes a lot of space? If we can reuse unused phone booths and unused train compartments, then why the discarded old Boeing 747s cannot be reused? These discarded Boeing 747s can be reused as hostel, restaurants, and much more. Not only do these huge structures look awful when not in use, but they also consume a lot of space which can be put to some fruitful use.
So it is better to reuse them as something other than just keep them for showing purposes. Let us look at a few ways in which a discarded Boeing 747s can be used:
1) The jumbo hostel
An old Boeing in Stockholm was converted into a jumbo sized airport hostel. This hostel provided shelters for flight attendants and pilots and other staff members. This looks magnificent from outside. The interiors are even more beautiful. This is one of the most effective ways to reuse an old gigantic airplane. This modified hostel has 27 rooms and 70 beds. Each room has wireless connections to the internet. Moreover, each room has also got wide flat screen television sets which also show the departure and arrival times of all the planes. This is really convenient for the people who work with aeroplane companies because the airport is just five minutes away from the hostel. The hostel comes with a café attached to it. There is a common room as well. The best thing is that the entire hostel is air-conditioned.
2) The Smithsonianâs Revamped 747 cockpit
When North West airlines offered an entire Boeing 747 to the air and space museum it became a problem for the people at the museum. They did not know what to do it. So they decided to keep the cockpit in the museum. The other part was left to rust. But the cock pit was first separated and brought to the museum where it was renovated. Now people can come and see how the old fashioned jumbo sized planes looked like. Though they are not being able to see the whole of it, the cockpit serves some purpose.
3) Boeing 747 Restaurant
A Boeing 747 in Korea is converted into a huge restaurant. The right wing was cut off due to the loss of space. This restaurant looks awesome from inside. It is decorated very well from the inside. The interiors are air conditioned and beautifully decorated with trees and fountains. This restaurant attracts a number of customers. This is a great way to utilize an abandoned airline. This is a perfect example of how well a thing of those large dimensions can be reused.
4) 747 wing house project
The wing house project in Malibu has to be the greenest and most ambitious project. The planning for this project lasted for 7 years. The main reason for such delay was that the owner was not getting the required permission to build this. But finally it was approved and the project did become successful. The main design was mainly around the planeâs massive two wings. Part of this has become a guest house and another part has become an art studio. To sum up this – the 747 did not go down as a waste.
5) Boeing 747 spare bedroom flight simulator
This project might not be the most successful project but it is definitely ambitious. It is a fully functional bedroom with a cockpit stimulator. It has got seats which are far more comfortable. The project was completed in eight years and it took around £15,000 to build this. The cockpit is made up of wood. It has got 12 ft x 9 ft screen and two 19 inch flat screens as the side windows.
With the help of these ideas many other unused airplanes are also being modified and reused. Moreover, these unused Boeing 747s are also attracting many business companies from various parts of the world who want to take the unique opportunity to do something extremely creative and make a handsome profit at the same time.
