We have seen quite a number of shoes that have been made of recycled items. But these literally take the cake when it comes to design and creativity.
Worn Again Shoes
The shoes designed by this company are recycled from a range of items like surplus jeans and jackets, old coffee sacks and even car tires. All of these items are recycled 99% before ending up in the final product. And the shoes are, surprising to say, wearable and extremely comfortable. They don’t wear out too soon either.
Blazier Pentium 1.0 Shoes
It took junk metal artist anddesigner Gabriel Dishaw three weeks to create these extremely creative and geeky shoes. Dishaw used worn out or unused bits and pieces of typewriters and computers to create these shoes. Dishaw also used only metal bending techniques and some glue to keep all these pieces firmly stuck to each other. And though they may not be wearable owing to their weight of 15 pounds, the Blazier Pentium 1.0 Shoes is definitely a collectors’ item, and comes with its own carrying case, also designed by Dishaw.
Paper Feet
Jimmy Tomczak from Michigan hopes to introduce to the world what he calls foot condoms, shoes made out of recycled billboards. Tomczak employs the use of old billboards from companies like McDonalds for the same purpose. He cuts up these billboards and uses some Velcro to attach the individual pieces in the shape of a shoe. The billboards Tomczak chooses are very thick (several times thicker than shower curtains), and so, are foldable, tear-resistant and waterproof.
Human Hair
Now here’s something you don’t get to see every day. Taiwan based hairstylist Shiou-Ying Tsai has put all of her hairstyling experience to craft a pair of high heels made out of discarded human hair. Stunning to look at, these high heels took a month for Tasi to create using nothing but hairspray to hold the individual hair strands together. Tsai claims that her high heels would be more comfortable than standard high heels owing to the fact that they are made entirely of hair.
Taxidermy Animal Parts
How about walking in a pair of hooves with pistols acting as the heels? Designed by Germany based taxidermy artistIris Schieferstein, these high heels consists of raw materials derived from dead animals (those that are either donated to her or die of natural causes) for the body, and really imaginative items like pistols and hammers for heels. The shoes may seem a bit morbid to look at, but can definitely up your style quotient in a party.
