Being surrounded by the same landscape for too long gets quite monotonous. Breaking that boredom and adding spice to the vicinity is an 84-year-old man who believes in creating a new landscape by inserting a pinch of green to it. Chuck Bahde, who owns a 5-acre spread in Rancho Santa Fe thought of saving some water used for keeping his garden green. So, came up with the idea of filling the area with meandering streams, pools and waterfalls that of course did not require water. He created all these using with blue and green glass, hand-painted rocks and plastic.
Bringing his experience of working as an industrial architect for years, Bahde keeps adding new pieces to beautify his property. His rambling wooden house also has a tall sculpture that he calls “The Wave”, which is made by using a solar panel from a defunct pool-heating system. Where time-faded, wooden tennis rackets and a tiny gold trophy help in enhancing the surrounding, plastic CDs behaves as sun-catchers. Every artwork in the property is made by recycling materials like pebbles, broken bottles, computer chips, seashells, beads, railroad ties, old-fashioned glass doorknobs.
Bahde who is planning to put his pieces of art on exhibit at a gallery someday is happy and extremely proud that the striking landscape requires very little water to maintain. Not only is this old man here a true environmentalist, but is also an example for the others to follow. You too could take tips from his work and transform your vicinity into something more beautiful and inspiring.
