Foods produced the natural way without using any pesticides, fertilizers, preservatives, additives, or genetic modifications are known as organic. Many meat and animal products are also harmful as they are treated with growth hormones and antibiotics. Such chemical laden foods are very harmful. When we eat such foods the chemicals enter our body through the victuals ingested. So, it is better to switch to organic foods that made from healthy ingredients and processed using nature friendly ways. Organic foods are not mass manufactured under industry regulations. Given is a list of daily food items that are available in organic varieties also.
1. Eggs
When poultry is fed with healthy organic feed, we get organic eggs. The chicken feed is free from pesticides and the birds are not even given prophylactic antibiotics. Also, such chickens are not locked up in cages but allowed to move around freely. Thus, they are also called free range chicken and eggs produced are also referred to as free range. Such eggs are rated AA, A or B.
2. Dairy
All dairy products we consume like milk, cheese and butter can be laced with artificial chemicals. The fat in dairy products shields pesticides, antibiotics and growth hormones. You are better off purchasing milk from organic dairies that do not use growth hormones. The cows in such dairies are fed with organic healthy feed, cared for by health experts, and live in good conditions. They are not injected with any antibiotics or growth hormones. Organic Valley and Horizon are two such healthful dairy brands.
3. Cereals
Organic agriculture was encouraged by Green Revolution and the result is now produced in form of organic cereals. While cultivating such cereals, organic fertilizers like compost and manure are used. Also, good agricultural practices like crop rotations and legume covers are applied. Eternal, Natureâs Path Organic, Eden Organic are some reputed brands.
4. Coffee
Chemicals and pesticides can be used on plants growing coffee beans as well. So, buy your coffee from farmlands that do not use these harmful chemicals. Pick a coffee with a Fair Trade certified label to be assured of good quality. 5. Breads
Organic breads are free of toxic chemicals and made from all natural ingredients, generally whole grains. They have a rich and nutty flavor and most bear a stamp of âCertified Organicâ or âWhole Grain.â Bills Organic, Bread Alone Bakery, Abigailâs Bakery, Pure Bread are some well known brands.
6. Meat
Even the different meats that we consume can be laden with pesticides, chemicals and antibiotics. Again meat obtained from animals who live in healthy conditions and eat nutritious feed is best. Also, they should not be given artificial growth hormones, drugs, or antibiotics. Make sure your meat comes from manufacturers who are organically certified. Such producers also never sell genetically modified meats. Some known brands of organic meats are Applegate farms, grass fed organic beef from Alderspring Ranch, Wholesome Harvest, etc.
7. Fruits and Vegetables
No matter how much you scrub and peel the fruits and the vegetables, there will also be some residue of pesticide leftover on them. Peaches are known to be sprayed with 45 different pesticides. Even peppers are sprinkled with many pesticides and they are even more susceptible due to their thin skin. Celery, lettuce, tomatoes, spinach are delicate vegetables with a thin skin thus get affected the most by pesticides sprayed on. Out of season fruits like the strawberries and the imported grapes are also loaded with chemicals.
