Nothing is more satisfying and interesting than having your own home made of a lot of eco-friendly materials. The greatest thing is that you will save a lot of energy and also contribute towards protecting the environment from pollution. Claudia Wiegand and Mark Kurth have been able to successfully build their new eco-friendly and modern dream home near the shore after renting and owning the Rehobath getaways for over 30 years. It is built at 32 feet above sea level and occupies about 4,000 square feet. The cost of the contemporary three-level building is about $1 million. It is also built on a heavily wooden area overlooking the Lewes- Rehobath Canal. The new home is designed in an elegant fashion with no seashore kitsch. It has a flip-flop flyswatter in sight.
Many people living in the Canal Corkran development north of Route 14, situated about a mile from the ocean, have built similar modern seashore getaways that resemble the antebellum plantations, Victorian confections, modernist geometrics and Frank Lloyd Wright prairie houses.
De-beaching is becoming very popular these days according to Ed Albers, co-owner of the contemporary getaway. People are looking for different ways to live in more stylish yet in simple and sophisticated ways. They are looking for better quality artwork, furnishings and well-decorated interior and exterior spaces. Claudia and Kurth also had the same desires. They completed building their new home in last December. Until then they were shuttling between their condo in Georgetown and new home in Delaware.
They are very happy that the new home has been completely designed according to their wish. The environment-friendly new home is something that does not look like a traditional beach house. But it functions like one with all the facilities that are required for a comfortable and casual living. There is lot of space for entertainment and accommodation of guests. The patio is also very spacious and good for organizing parties. Every time Wiegand, 57, a financial consultant, looks around his beautiful getaway, he looks around for things that need improvement. But according to him, he finds nothing because he feels that he has done his best to make the whole project very comfortable and eco-friendly.
Kurth is 54 and is a consultant with Hewlett-Packard. Both husband and wife share a unique sensibility. By building a beautiful home they were able to share a lot of ideas and put them to test as well. They were able to see how their ideas decorated and enhanced the ambiance of the whole structure. Though the house is not very âbeachyâ it has a special marine environment. The owners as well as the building team strived very hard to find elegant, stylish and sophisticated green materials for making their dream come true. According to Wiegand, they even sourced certain materials from as far as 200 miles in order to make it environment-friendly and sustainable. The house is designed in such a way that it can utilize the sunlight in winter and use the shade during the summer.
