What would you have thought of doing with a destroyed ship? Of course, you would have dumped it. But some people have a brain to get the dead trash breathe again. Nic Kruger is one of those. Nic Kruger who is a furniture designer and also the owner of Shipwreck Furniture based in Knysna, South Africa, has been building eco-friendly furniture by reusing the wood recovered from accidently ruined ships.
Each boat’s fabric, wreckage and design collectively define the resultant furniture’s shape, color and size. Kruger goes on to explain:
We use exclusively timber from our wrecks which in many ways limits us in conventional thinking and forces us to let the timber dictate the size, shape and finish of the final product. These boats were chopped up with chainsaws and little regard for future use. The parameters were the size of the dump-trucks that was used to transport it…All of the above challenges just makes it so much more rewarding to work with such great raw material.
The unique furniture items include benches, tables, chairs etc. Every furniture piece has a different story to narrate of their wild and exciting voyages.
