Whether it is the well heeled or the down and out, everyone wishes to give their loved ones a beautiful, peaceful place to rest. But, traditional cemeteries are not the best choice as they take up acres of valuable spaces that can never be recovered again. Freeing a significant amount of ground space for living and parks is the “Moksha Tower” that envisioned for the city of Mumbai, India. Designers Yalin Fu and Ihsuan Lin have adapted traditional burial methods from four major religions and translated them into an urban context.
The stunning high rise cemetery will include public green spaces not only to create a peaceful and beautiful place to pray for the departed soul, but also to help absorb CO2 and pollution, counter heat island effect etc. It will also utilize new technologies to handle the dead bodies so as to decrease urban pollution. Shifting to such skyscraper will save precious land, which could be used for living, parks and other public spaces.
