The Copenhagen Suborbitals, a group of Danish engineers will launch their home-built rocket called Tycho Brahe-1 aka ‘HEAT 1X’ (Hybrid Exo Atmospheric Transporter) from a submarine in the Baltic Sea on August 30th. Touted as the world’s largest amateur space rocket, it will be towed out there by a homemade submarine.
Kristian von Bengtson and Peter Madsen, the Danish inventors say…
We are working fulltime to develop a series of suborbital space vehicles – designed to pave the way for manned space flight on a micro size spacecraft.
The 9 meters high rocket uses liquid oxygen as fuel and burns for about 60 seconds, providing 40k N of thrust. If the flight proves a success, the team will launch another micro spacecraft with one human passenger into the space sometime soon. The specially designed seat minimizes the gravitational pull on the passenger’s spine.
