Most widely recognized as the windy city, Chicago is well on track to spread the sustainability envelope through architectural solutions. HOK recently dedicated a green parking garage to the city called the Greenway Self-Park. The 24 hour parking garage facility imbibes multiple green elements to make the entire structure energy efficient. The 11 storey high rise has been equipped with 12-paired array of vertical wind turbines to harvest wind energy to power the exterior wall lighting of the facility. A reverse meter has also been installed to measure and return extra power to the city’s grid throughout the year. The building has a naturally ventilated external wall comprising of a visually layered fabric of breathable glass channels. The garage also has rain water collection systems and electric car plug in stations to fast charge your EV.
