After being deprived of enjoying a good swim in the clean and cool water of the Centennial Pool for quite some time now, people living in the City of Buffalo will now get a chance to drench themselves in tranquility. Mayor Byron W. Brown announced today that the pool located in LaSalle Park along Porter Avenue, NY will be reopened today for the Summer 2010 season. The completely reconstructed Centennial Pool is now loaded with modernized facilities, offering a better quality of life to the residents.
An amount of $3 million coming from City of Buffalo bond funds went into giving the new green transformation to the Centennial Pool. The project included a fully reconstructed pool, the construction of a new handicapped accessible in-ground concrete pool, complete renovation of the existing pool building and the installation of a new state-of-the-art water filtration and pumping system.
A new pool has been constructed within the existing pool, while the roof of the pool building was replaced with materials made from recycled tires. The pool’s deck area got a makeover and the lead-based paint from the building has been completely removed. I hope to see many visitors coming to get re-energized in this new Centennial Pool that mergers sustainability and comfort.
