With issues like global warming and climate change affecting our planet, people are looking to sustainable alternatives. Catering to the needs of present times, JA Solar Holdings has developed a new line of high performance solar cells. Dubbed the “SECIUM”, the solar cells were unveiled at the Intersolar 2010 in Munich. Unlike conventional solar cells, these new SECIUM solar cells enable substantially better spectral response at short wavelengths, making the cells more efficient.

The new cost effective solar cells offers increased short circuit current, an increased open circuit voltage, and a reduction in recombination losses. The company claims that its new family of solar cells has higher power output when compared to the traditional solar cells. They also demonstrate a higher fill factor and have higher power output than those of conventional solar cells. The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) in Germany has certified 18.9 percent conversion efficiency results to the SECIUM solar cells. The SECIUM cells went into pilot production in May, while for its commercial availability you would have to wait until the second half of 2010.
