Green technology gathers a different connotation with the newly-developed, prefabricated pavilion that owes its existence to Anderson Anderson Architecture’s dedication toward the educational aspect of architecture. Dubbed as PGA Prairie Hopper, the pavilion folds itself up for speedy re-deployment like a shipping container. So, be it a sports event, an environmental observation colloquium, or some other community program, the two-story structure is suited for all these activities.

Re-used components, high-recycled content steel, recycled content shade cloth and modular, xeriscaped, planting trays get together to re-affirm its sustainable texture. A limestone-composite thermal and evaporative-resistant mass protects the container-home.

You could see the Hopper supporting native prairie grasses, cactus and several hundred additional species without regular irrigation. Wind turbines and high-efficiency photovoltaics are there to power the pavilion.

Optimized shading is ensured via some shade screens that adapt to the pavilion orientation, and, as stated above, fold flat for easy transportation. Ganged, evacuated-tube solar thermal collectors provide potable, sanitary hot water.
