Annual Adopt-a-Beach event has been known to exhibit creative skills of participants, who have the ability to covert found debris into something extraordinary. This year Alliance seeks shoreline statues from beach trash for its new “Shore Thing” sculpture contest. The fifteen days event that started on May 1 invites volunteers to submit three pictures of their creations made completely from found beach materials, by May 21.
Last year the eco-friendly program helped in clearing nearly 30,468 pounds of trash from 245 locations. It is anticipate that the eighth annual Adopt-a-Beach Event will be bigger than ever with more than 9,000 volunteers in five states monitoring beaches on four out of five Great Lakes. In order to appreciate the efforts of the participants, three winners will be announced on June 17 at the Alliance’s annual Taste of the Great Lakes fundraiser in Chicago.
