$1.2 million smart house proposed for Lambton College

Proposed on the northwest side of the Lambton College, next to the Early Childhood Education day-care center, is a smart house that will feature the latest energy-efficient technologies, such as, geothermal heating, solar panels, moss roof, Velix skylight with an electronic shade, and an interior thermal brick wall. The $1.2 million smart house will be a working lab for various college programs.

The college administration took almost two years to conceive and finalize the design for the smart home. Funds are already pouring in as the federal government and Suncor Energy commits to contribute $550,660 and $150,000 respectively toward the construction. When completed this winter, the house will open for public from time to time.
