You must have come across many extraordinary, exquisite and magnificent architectural structures till date. But, here is something unbelievable. Matej Kren, a Slovakian artist transform books, the source of knowledge into an unusual structure. Hailed the ‘Book Cell’, the octagonal building is made entirely from books that were installed in the Modern Art Center in Lisboa. Borrowed books from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation onsite at the Modern Art Center resulted in a symmetrical, enclosed room of stacked literature. The octagonal framework was originally installed for six months in 2006. The books that served as building blocks for the Book Cell were returned to its collection after use, making it a very site-specific. Just like books impart knowledge, the idea of the structure too expresses intelligent thinking, which says that one doesn’t need to use something crazy, new and disposable to make powerful art.
