Get prepared to enjoy a thrilling green ride. The classic Coney Island ride is on its way to go green. The Wonder Wheel will soon have solar panels on the tops of its 16 swinging cars. The eco-friendly installation that is expected to produce enough energy to light the wheel just like it used to in its early days, will be set up by this summer.
The historic Wonder Wheel that has been adding excitement for the past 90 years used to have bulbs lighting each car, which were removed in the 1980s due to safety concerns. But, with the installation of 32 solar panels that will generate 960 watts of electricity, the ride hope to go safe and green. The installation will also have a battery that will save energy from the sun to power the lights at night and when the sun doesn’t smile. Let’s hope to see the same old bright Wonder Wheel again.
