Alpha Energy, a U.S. based company has recently completed the work of an enormous 1MV grid-connected solar power system that will supply power to the auction facility in Bordentown, NJ. The carport structure covering an area of 13,000 square meters incorporates 5,880 solar panels of 170W capacity, which are tied into an electricity meter through 11 separate inverters, ensuring that if a single array needs to be taken offline, 90% of the system will still be producing electricity.
Nearly 50 tons of steel, 183 cubic meters of concrete and over 16 kilometers of wiring has gone into the construction and installation of the solar powered carport. The company claims that the system is expected to produce more than 1,056,000-kilowatt hours per year. This amount should be enough to power 114 US homes. The system will provide 52% of the total energy required by the carport, reducing the carbon emissions up to 862 tons annually. This reduction in carbon emission is equivalent to taking 158 cars off the road. Alpha Energy claims it is the largest solar powered carport structure in the United States.
