Aequus 7.0: All-electric family day cruiser

Bruno Hervouet, ex-manager of Philéas dinghy builders, has created a family pleasure boat that powers itself with a solar-powered electric motor. Dubbed as Aequus 7.0, the 7-meter long boat – equipped with refrigerator and running fresh water –is just perfect for a gracious communion. Roof-mounted solar panels and on-board AGM lead acid batteries work in tandem to provide up to 8 hours of cruising at 7 knots (13 km/hr).

Once the boat has soaked up enough solar juice for propulsion, the 4kW synchronous brushless propulsion motor comes into action. A standard outlet also does the needful when required. The Category C vessel touts a maintenance-free electric drive system with no fuel consumption. Even though the Aequus 7.0 is believed to cost somewhere around US$70,607, certain customizations, such as a teak cockpit floor, additional batteries, electric windlass, and custom-made trailer, may drive up the score.
