Aerolabe: Solar blimp to offer zero-emission ride into future

Making a breakthrough by finding an alternative to heavily polluting air transport is what most of the researchers desire. A French designer, Gaspard Schlumberger, seeks to devise a green alternative to air transport. As part of the blimp rebirth movement, a cigar-shaped airship is being developed at a French mechanics institute. The Aerolabe is what the vessel is called. This new and improved version of the old blimp is the most recent addition to a series of zeppelin revivals.

The Aerolabe is a solar-powered balloon that gets a support of wings to fly. Schlumberger and his backers see this dirigible as the transport of the future, flaunting its zero carbon emission credentials. Estimates are that the ingenious design could be transformed into reality with nearly three and a half million euros.
