As the Berlin-based designer Nils Völker was planning to deny 108 garbage bags their chance to deck a landfill, he turned them into a wonderful, breathing installation. Dubbed as One Hundred and Eight, the interactive piece of art utilizes 216 computer-controlled CPU cooling fans to selectively inflate and deflate half the number of plastic bags.

While one fan pumps the bag up with air, the other is used to let the air out of it… and, he does it all so very selectively. Certain preset animations make one believe that the wall-mounted installation is breathing. Well, we find it quite innovative. How about you?
