The problem of water scarcity and environmental degradation can be solved to a great extent if there were a way of detecting leaks in water pipes and creating hydro-electric power at the same time. An Israeli company that specializes in water measurement and managing technologies is here to do just that. Arad Group, owned by two agricultural communes in northern Israel, came up with the idea to monitor water leakage loss, from water mains by using a small pilot-less drone aircraft fly that quickly sizes up water meters and identifies leaks in the system.
The system uses small pilot-less drone aircraft fly about 900 meters above the group that pick up water leakage signals instantaneously from small transmitters installed in the meters of water pipes that detect water leakage. The leakage information regarding the leakage is sent to the repair departments of both private and public water companies, who send a crew out to repair the leak. It could save up to 20% of the city of New York’s lost water from going for waste.
Arad’s flying drone that was tested at an Israeli pilot site has made sales in Texas and is in contact with many cities in America, India and the UK. These meters, combined with Arad’s ‘fly-by monitoring technology’ is helping to save millions of gallons of lost water by finding and repairing water pipe seepage in shorter periods of time.
