We all like to have a dog at home. These days we can also see celebs walking the red carpet with their dogs, showering a lot of love on them. But, here is an artist who shows he love and appreciation for this most faithful animal by making its collages. San Francisco-based artist Samuel Price makes cool dog portraits from nothing but waste. He uses discarded magazines to create intricate portraits of different dog breeds.
How does he make the collages?
Samuel Price uses pieces of photographs he finds in old, discarded magazines and then uses them to create a beautiful portrait of a dog. He first looks through discarded magazines for hours in order to find the right color and shape for his portrait. Then he picks up the bits and pieces one by one and glues them to a canvas. The result is an exquisite dog collage that looks more like a painting. These collages not only exhibit great art, but also keep those discarded magazines from the landfills.
The artist
Samuel Price is a self taught artist living in San Francisco with his wife, his dog Buster and two cats. His love for art began when he was too young to afford paints, so he used to would tear up magazine and newspaper pages and glue them to a canvas to create amazing portraits. He has always believed in the use of accessible materials, so magazines became the material of his choice. The technique he uses is called collage or photo-montage, which requires many hours of assembling, cutting and pasting hundreds of tiny paper pieces onto canvas to create a finished work of art. He tries to capture the vitality of his subject in each picture that he creates.
