As part of the Designers in Residence program at the Design Museum London, designer Asif Khan has come up with something extraordinary. He has taken the advantage of the subdued aesthetic of Gypsophila plant and created amazing furniture. Dubbed ‘Harvest’, the project aims to create furniture made of freeze-dried flowers.

Khan has used Gypsophila for the chairs and tables for one simple reason that the plant has natural ability to aggregate and interlock. First, the plant was left to bloom and once the appropriate result is obtained, it was harvested and put into moulds to be freeze-dried over several weeks. When the plants harden, then the furniture was fused using a linseed oil-based resin. Harvest is a beautiful mixture of furniture and nature. The project will remain on show in The Tank outside the museum until 15 March.
