Originally intended for the 2009 Solar Decathlon competition in Washington, D.C., the Bayer EcoCommercial Building Conference Center designed by Penn State University students still serves as a model for sustainable building solutions. The 800-square-foot, ‘net zero sustainability’ center is fully solar-powered and it displays Bayer MaterialScience’s green construction techniques that include a wall of green perennials, floor to ceiling windows, repurposed slate and wood and Polycarbonates, Polyurethanes and coatings.
The energy-efficient building feeds any surplus energy to the local power grid. Other green features include superior insulation, proper daylighting, intelligent building and heating, ventilation and air conditioning.
