As the world’s leading automaker Nissan lends a helping hand toward the construction of a 60ft obelisk bike tower in California, its love for biking has emerged as a revelation for millions like me. Standing proud in the City of Santa Rosa, the 10,000lb Cyclisk bike sculpture clusters around 340 recycled bikes collected from local nonprofit community bike projects.
Petaluma-based artists Mark Grieve and Ilana Spector came up with the innovative obelisk, when the city commissioned them to create bike art for the Santa Rosa corridor. The $37,000 project owes its creation fully to the one percent tax on a new $3.7 million Nissan dealership building as part of “1% for Art” scheme.
