It’s not for nothing that we’re harping on the 2010 Vancouver Olympics for quite some time now. Yesterday, we told you about the world’s first LEED Platinum convention center heading to Vancouver. Now, it’s time to rock the dance floor at Club Energy while generating some energy during the boogie. At the downtown (Power Smart Village) of the Olympic City, a sustainable dance floor created by British Columbia Hydro and Sustainable Dance Club, an organization based in Rotterdam, Holland awaits all.

Several 65 cm by 65 cm tiles, all over the dance floor, rest on springs that are connected to generators. As the springs go up and down with people dancing above them, sufficient energy in generated to power the dance club through its routine maneuvers. Just to let the performers know how much energy they have generated, a monitor screen and some flickering LED lights are there.

So, while people join others at the “So You Think You Can Dance” competition everyday at 3 pm, they’ve actually made the difference by generating over 8,000,000 watts in a week. Another competition named the BC Power Smart Dance Challenge keeps track of the energy generated by the participants of a particular country.
